The Heitman House was built in 1908 by Gilmer Heitman, a very prominent businessman and friends with Thomas A. Edison, Henry Ford and Henry Firestone. They often had tea in Heitman's House, in the early days of the city of Fort Myers' development. The home was built for Mr. Heitman's bride, before she even said yes to his request of marriage.

He met her in Fort Myers, however, she was a guest from England. When she left, he realized he was in love. After building this home for her, he went to England for her consent in marriage. They then returned to make
this beautiful mansion on the River their new home.

This home was built in 1908 and burned in 1960. It then stood vacant until 1991 when Carla D. Anderson was passing through Fort Myers on a business trip and purchased her future home. The Antebellum style home has now been completely restored.
